What is Solid surface?

Solid Surface is a mixture of natural stone and minerals in an acrylic matrix developed as a practical material to be used in residential and commercial applications. Supplied in sheet form up to 12.3mm thick it can be fabricated using woodworking machinery to achieve limitless shapes and designs. We often have customers compare it to Natural Stone for both quality and price but it is our opinion that Corian® and Hi-Macs are unique and superior to such products for most applications.

CHARACTERISTICS

Resistant: A very versatile material that is easy to live with. It survives impacts, nicks and cuts that can occur during general wear and tear. It is highly resistance to stains, acids, UV rays and bacteria (specific results can be found on the manufacturers' websites)

Homogenous: Colours and patterns are consistent throughout the material and cannot wear away. As the name suggests it is solid and cannot delaminate or break down in any way.

Inconspicuous joints: Joints can be glued inconspicuously making virtually unlimited surface possibilities; edges can be made up to any thickness with no visible glue line. Sinks and bowls can also be seamlessly integrated into surfaces creating a look that other materials cannot achieve.

Hygienic: Because solid surface is non porous, bacteria and mould have nowhere to hide. The logical choice for food preparation areas.

Repairable: Should a serious accident happen to your solid surface material, repairs can be made with no visable trace and general accidents like cigarette burns can be removed with a non abrasive scouring pad and general cleaner.

Non Toxic: Inert and hypoallergenic under normal temperatures it does not emit gases and is flame retardant. This is why it is commonly found in airports etc.

Thermoformable: At controlled temperatures solid surface can be thermoformed to various 2D and 3D designs.
